Departure info

Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, sits between Maryland and Virginia on the East Coast. Spanning 68 square miles (177 km²), it’s the heart of the nation’s government and history.

Founded in 1790 and named after George Washington, the city was designed by Pierre L’Enfant, a French architect. His vision gave D.C. its unique layout—wide avenues, grand traffic circles, and open public spaces—making it both a functional capital and a beautiful place to explore.
